How Much Are We Trashing Our Oceans
1/27/17
Summary:
The world has undergone a 620% increase in plastic production since 1974. Most of this plastic waste leads to the ocean., which raises a number of concerns. It can damage ecosystems and marine animals contaminate our food supply, and lead to chemical leaching. It takes hundreds to thousands of years for plastic to be degraded. The consumption of plastic is constantly growing. We are also using way more plastic than ever before.

List of Important/Interesting Facts:
1. Asian nations take up 13 out of the top 20 spots of countries that generate the most plastic debris into the oceans
2. Researchers estimated that China has the most mismanaged plastic waste per year and generates the most plastic debris
3. The United States is also in the top twenty and had a higher rate of waste generation per person at 5.6 pounds per person than China (2.4 pounds per person)

My Opinion:
I feel as though this is just going to continue. The amount of plastic and waste we use on a daily basis has become such a routine that we are so accustomed to it. Even if some people try to stop it, there still won't be a drastic change in how much waste we use and put into our oceans. Putting all of this waste and trash in the ocean is harming our oceanic species, which is bad for us in the long run.
